On this, the first day of the new year, I'd like to wish for all of you peace, happiness, and magic. And that this year you might dare to try something new that you've always wanted to try, but have always found an excuse to put off. For me? It just might involve creating an elaborate seven course meal for a few friends using only random ingredients chosen during a blindfolded trip to the supermarket. Really put my culinary skills to the test. Sardine and horseradish-infused sausages anyone? Tri-tip ice-cream? (Hm..maybe not). Perhaps I'll try a scuba-diving trip in Scotland, in search of the elusive Loch Ness Monster. Or maybe, just maybe, I might finally get around to building that medieval-style castle in my backyard. (You think I'm kidding, but I'm not!) "Got stone? Build castle." That's what I say. No hurry, though. One stone at a time.
And now for the really exciting news. 2011 is officially designated as The Year of Dark Street! What does that mean? It means that...
On July 26th--just seven short months away--THE WIZARD OF DARK STREET will at last be released in book stores around the nation! I'm so eager for you all to finally meet Oona Crate, the twelve-year-old magical detective at the center of it all. I've known our precocious heroine for quite some time now, and I hope that when you all finally meet her, later this summer, that you will find a place for her and her perplexing adventures in your minds, and, most especially, in your hearts.
A big thanks to my super agent Catherine Drayton of InkWell management, and of course all the folks at Egmont USA (my fabulous publishers) for all of their support and guidance over the past year. We have got a lot of fun stuff up our sleeves in anticipation of the big release--stuff we will be putting out later this summer. Until then, I hope you all enjoy the Curious Blog, and remember to keep your eyes open for the magic that surrounds us every day!
Here's to a happy new year, with plenty of good reads!
